Thursday July 15, 2010

WoW, what a trip! It started on June 29th with Brooke and I heading to Havasu for the holiday and Cheryl, Harley and Bryanna joining us late Thursday night and they picked Trever Stratton on the way. Great 4th at Havasu with the Stratton's having a house full and all of Cheryl's family was out. Then on July 6, I headed toward Lake Tahoe after celebrating Bryanna's 20th birthday @ the "Sail Inn", her preference. I spent the first night in Pahrump, NV and the second night in Smith Valley (alot of driving). I made it to Harvey's Casino for two nights (no I didn't have the Odell luck on the slots) but had a good time including seeing the "Pink Floyd" imitation band. Saturday July 10th I moved the motor home to Tahoe Valley Campground about noon and rode my bike about 5 miles back to pickup the jeep and literally ran into a pickup that cut in front of me and knocked me off my bike. The cops and paramedics were called and the lady driving the truck had been drinking and didn't know she hit me. I picked up my bike and rode two more miles to pick up the jeep. When I got back to the campground I noticed my wrist was swollen, luckily Barton Hospital was right next door to my campground and I went over for an X-ray and they gave me a cast for the chipped bone I had in the wrist I just had surgery on. It was a good thing I had kayaked the day before and rode my bike that day, because other than hiking, those were my goals for the trip to Tahoe. Well, Sunday and Monday I got to hike near Emerald Bay. Wednesday I headed for San Francisco Campground in Pacifica (very nice) which took about four hours. That brings me to today, Thursday I did the full tourist thing in S.F. I started the day off in the jacuzzi (of course) and then headed to AT@T Park where the Giants play. From there I headed to Chinatown to look up a church where I traveled and stayed with my church in 9th grade to meet the kids from that congregation, but it was around noon and I could not find a place to park, so I will leave that on my "bucket list". Next, off to Coit Tower which has an incredible view of the City and Bay. Then I went to Lombard Street and drove down the crooked street in the jeep. I then parked in the marina parking lot and rode my bike across the Golden Gate Bridge and back, there were two CHP Officers on motor bikes that gave me an escort across the bridge (they were riding on the sidewalk in front of me). Then I rode to Fisherman's Wharf and had fish and chips along the Embarcadero. I then had to go to Ghirardelli Square and get the girls some chocolate with mint. I had three samples! After putting the bike back on the jeep, I headed south on the coast and stopped to check out the Cliff House restaurant. On the way back to the campground, I picked up some food at Safeway just 1/4 mile away. Of course I ended the day back in the jacuzzi, no sunset today due to the fog.
We will see what tomorrow brings, I don't plan on being so busy!

Yesterday I was hit while riding my bike in Tahoe. Yes, I am OK, however chipped another bone in the wrist I had surgery on. I was riding in the bike lane on the main road of S. Lake Tahoe and a woman in a large pickup decided last minute to make a right turn into a parking lot from the left lane right in front of me and I hit the side of the truck and went down. The lady didn't even know she hit me and some witnesses had to chase her down. The cops were called and they talked me into having the Paramedics respond, who checked me out and I refused transport. I was heading to pickup my jeep that I left at a hotel to take to the campground I just checked into when the accident happened. I continued riding my bike for another two miles and returned to the campground and noticed that my wrist was swollen. Luckily, there was an ER right next to the campground, so I walked over for an X-ray they casted me and sent me back. The cops told me the lady had been drinking and they did a full sobriety check, but she blew below the ,08, so they didn't arrest her but gave her a ticket for an illegal lane change. Needless to say Cheryl isn't to happy about my solo traveling!

Thursday, February 25, 2010 - Home

Well I made it! Spent last night at Palm Springs Thousand Trails and enjoyed the warm weather, pool and jacuzzi. Arrived home at 1 pm after stopping at the self car wash. Cheryl and Harley were excited to see me as I was to see them. Brooke came home from work at about 3 pm and had her friend Aaron over for dinner and some L.A. City Fire talk. Stay tuned and I will try to catch up on some of the events I didn't cover including the Corvette museum and the Nashville Honky Tonks. Give me about a week.

Thanks for following,
David

Tuesday February 23, 2010

Another great day! Woke up to snow on the ground and finished the day with sunny warm day in the pool and jacuzzi. I left Vado, NM @ 8:30 and it was lightly snowing heading west. I took the 191 hwy off the Interstate 10 heading to Tombstone, a short cut I thought. I got to 15 miles from Tombstone and the road turned to dirt (reminded me of my youth traveling through Baja). I arrived in Tombstone around 1 pm and it was a beautiful warm afternoon, boy did I need that. I walked the streets and went to some shops, but the OK Corral show was sold out for the time I was there. I headed about 20 miles north to the Valley Vista Resort in Benson, AZ and was welcomed by a heated swimming pool and jacuzzi and beautiful weather, finally. Home in two more days.

Wednesday February 17 thru Monday February 22, 2010

Well I have not been very good at updating, that means I have been busy having fun!
After taking Mom and Dad to the airport on Wednesday afternoon, I headed back to Biloxi got caught up on wash and turned in the rental the next morning and headed to the swampland just past New Orleans and spent the night at Hide Away Pond. Friday I was off to Galvaston, TX to meet up with Scott, my school buddy who lives in the Dallas area. We spent two days exploring the beaches of South Texas and catching up on old times. We rode our bicycles along the boardwalk, drove to Surfside, where Scott surfs and went out to a couple of local spots on Friday and Saturday nights for dinner. Sunday I headed west past San Antonio and stayed at the Caribbean Cowboy Resort in Tarpley, TX. I was not that impressed due to the long drive out in the country and they were mainly a fitness guru campground (sort of). The weather was great and big sky was an awesome blue. I am pushing to get home to Cheryl by Thursday, because she wants me to go with her to the doctor on Friday and today was a long drive, about 570 miles and 9+ hrs driving, but God willing I will be home on Thursday. I am spending the night @ Western Sky's RV Park in Vado, NM right off the Interstate 10 and across from the dairy farm (pee eu).

Sunday, February 14, 2010 - Valentines Mardi Gras

Living the dream as my girls call it...I am believing them. I left the motor home in Biloxi and headed to New Orleans in the Hyundai. Arrived at "Chateau Bourbon" at about 1 pm, but couldn't check into the room until three. Guess I will have to go check out the area and I didn't have to go very far. There was a parade on the next block and I got my first set of beads (no, I didn't have to do anything spectacular to get them). Around the block from our hotel there was balconies and all the stories you have heard are true. I mean guys doing push ups for beads. Cheryl suggested I don't put those pictures on the blog. Mom, Dad, Jeff and Vivian showed up about 7 pm and I was already pre gamed, so I told them to catch up, but I don't think they ever did, because I never slowed down. I am paying for it now (I think I will have to go to a Bill W meeting with Dad). We went to dinner in our hotel after checking out another parade that Drew Bree's was in on the same block I saw the first parade. After dinner we took a stroll around the block, where I had to share the "balcony scene" with the family. Oh yeah, Cheryl and the girls sent me nice cards and candy for Valentines Day, now that is what I call living the dream!!!
